Mom and I visited Washington, DC, Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, and Annapolis a short while after she began me on my journey to find out about Marvin Carver. While at Annapolis we visited the Naval Academy. At the Academy I asked one of the visitor guides about Marvin and showed him a picture. He told me that if I had gotten there earlier in the week, he would have sent me to the library there, where they might have been able to help.
Oh well, back at home, I Googled Marvin Carver and found a New York Times article that listed Marvin in the graduating class of 1893. He was listed at 37th in his class of about 44. Another article I found had Marvin ordered to the Naval Hospital, Boston, for treatment.
Quite a little while later I found, on Footnote, I think, the 'Record of Naval Cadet M. Carver. This document gave Marvin's place of birth as Reedsburg, Wis. The State Representative from Minnesota, supported his application. He reported for duty 2 Sep. 1889, his date of birth 28 April 1871 and his religious affiliation as Presbyterian. The final information was his father's name : Wash~ I Carver, with his occupation as Photographer, and his residence in Tracy, Lyon Co., MN.

Who is Marvin Carver?
Who is Marvin Carver and why is his picture in my mom's house?
One day while visiting my Mom, she brought out a 19th century picture of a young man in a uniform. The first thing that stood out was, of course, the uniform. On the collar we noticed that there was an anchor on the mandarin collar. The photography shop's name and location on the bottom of the photograph was E. M. Carver, Tracy, Minn.
A quick search of the internet turned up a range of dates for this photographer as 1889-1890. Good, a date range. Marvin, his name was written on the back of the photograph, looked to be about 18 - 22 years old. Estimated birth year approximately 1868-1872.
I must say that my great-great grandmother Roe's maiden name was Carver. So, how is my Great-great grandmother, Corinna Carver Roe, related to this Marvin Carver?
