Mom and I visited Washington, DC, Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, and Annapolis a short while after she began me on my journey to find out about Marvin Carver. While at Annapolis we visited the Naval Academy. At the Academy I asked one of the visitor guides about Marvin and showed him a picture. He told me that if I had gotten there earlier in the week, he would have sent me to the library there, where they might have been able to help.
Oh well, back at home, I Googled Marvin Carver and found a New York Times article that listed Marvin in the graduating class of 1893. He was listed at 37th in his class of about 44. Another article I found had Marvin ordered to the Naval Hospital, Boston, for treatment.
Quite a little while later I found, on Footnote, I think, the 'Record of Naval Cadet M. Carver. This document gave Marvin's place of birth as Reedsburg, Wis. The State Representative from Minnesota, supported his application. He reported for duty 2 Sep. 1889, his date of birth 28 April 1871 and his religious affiliation as Presbyterian. The final information was his father's name : Wash~ I Carver, with his occupation as Photographer, and his residence in Tracy, Lyon Co., MN.
